The Nigerian Navy has been ordered by the Federal Government to investigate and stop the increasing influx of foreign trawlers who fish indiscriminately in Nigeria’s territorial waters.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, during an interactive session held with farmers in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Lokpobiri, while addressing issues raised, said there would be no more tolerance to the influx of foreign trawlers into the nation’s territorial waters.

The minister revealed that the presidency had directed the Chief of Naval Staff to look into the matter with immediate effect.

The fishing trawlers usually go in through the coast to fish without permission.
