Kogi Govt. Took $12m Loan To Buy 109 Vehicles – PDP

Yahaya-Bello-of-Kogi-State-e1468169251443The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the Kogi State Government of giving approval for the purchase of 109 units of vehicles at a total cost of over $12million.

The party frowned at the ill-advised move by the government to acquire the vehicles at a time the Nigerian economy was in recession and workers in Kogi, owed several months salaries.

The PDP’s Director of New Media, Deji Adeyanju, made the allegation via his Twitter handle @adeyanjudeji, backed by a memo dated June 9, 2016, and signed by the state’s Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Asiwaju Asiru Idris.

Mr. Adeyanju, who hails from the state, also claimed that the Governor Yahaya Bello-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state, bought vehicles worth about N1billion a few months ago.

According to the memo by Mr. Idris, the purchase of the vehicles, to be wholly financed by a Kano-based company, Philko Limited, is to be repaid by the government on a three-year finance plan at 8 percent fixed interest rate.

The Kogi government is yet to react to the allegation.
