The Imo State government in partnership with Kebbi State recently launched the Rice Anchor Borrower’s Programme.

The event which had in attendance Governor Rochas Okorocha supported by his counterpart from Kebbi State, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was held at the International Convention Centre Owerri.

Other dignitaries in attendance during the launch were the SSG Chief Eche, the Chief of Staff, top cabinet members and ex-governor of the state, Chief Jim Nwobodo.

Prior to this event, at an executive meeting held on September 7th the Imo State government announced that it was in a partnership agreement with the Kebbi State government in agricultural and educational development.

Governor Okorocha said that the state government was going into the partnership to tackle the current economic situation in Nigeria which had given room for states to look inward.

He added that the partnership programme would majorly be in rice production while the educational development will be in the area of Teachers training.

He also told the gathering that his administration was more determined than ever to deploy all machineries to ensure that the partnership would be sustained for the benefit of Imo people, expressing hopes that Imo state would become an agrarian state which would sustain and generate more Internally Generated Revenue for the state.

Highlighting that Imo State is known for educational development and that the state had well qualified teachers, he said the Imo state government would partner with Kebbi State government in training thousands of their teachers.

Kebbi State has been a success story in agriculture through the drive of His Excellency, Governor Bagudu; especially rice production and Imo State is looking to adopt the Kebbi State template to join the list of states producing rice in large quantity in Nigeria thus leading to the drive for the Anchor borrowers programme.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu assured his continued support through the mutually beneficial partnership. His visit to Imo State marks the beginning of a partnership that is sure to boost economic production while also developing the educational sector in both states and Nigeria.
