More than 500 residents of Gumi town in Zamfara State has been rendered homeless while a 60-year-old woman also lost her life in the heavy rainfall that led to flood on Sunday in Gummi Local Government Area of the State.
According to eyewitnesses, over 100 houses were destroyed in the flood including farmlands and many animals were also killed.
A spokesperson for the victims, Muhammad Bala, appealed to governments at all levels to come to their aid by providing them with relief materials to alleviate their loses.
Vice Chairman of Gummi Local Council, Sa’idu Bawa, who confirmed the incident urged the people of the area to remain calm while a request for assistance would be forwarded to both state and federal governments.
The flood affected Albarkawa, Yardiga, Yartsayasu and Lemawa areas of Gummi town in the state.
