Pep Guardiola’s Text Message That Rejuvenated Raheem Sterling’s Football Career

Raheem Sterling is finally proving his worth at Manchester City, and it’s safe to assume that Pep Guardiola has everything to do with it.

The former Liverpool man didn’t have as bright a first season under Manuel Pellegrini last season, and his shoddy form carried on into the Euros this summer. However, he looks a new man under Guardiola, and is now one of City’s most important players.

Just what did the Spanish boss do to rejuvenate the England international? Well apparently, Guardiola started working on his new project even before pre-season training; whilst the player was miles away in France.

According to Times writer Henry Winter, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach sent a text message to the player while he was at the Euros saying: “Don’t worry, I know you’re a good player. As long as you work for me, I’ll fight for you.”

Guardiola’s words have seemingly done the trick, and Sterling is back to his old self – the Liverpool one – getting among the goals including last weekend’s brace against West Ham, helping earn City a 3-1 win and push them to the top of the table.
