A trailer fully loaded with fertilizer worth millions of naira was intercepted by the Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) on Saturday at Amansea, Awka North Council Area of the state.

The State Commandant, Mr Godwin Omoregie, who disclosed this to newsmen in Awka, said the fertilizer was being allegedly diverted by a syndicate to an undisclosed destination.

He added that consignment was initially allotted to a dealer in Anambra at the Eleme Petrochemical Depot for agricultural purposes.

“As we know, fertiliser is primarily used for agriculture and the farmers here in the state who it was meant to serve can no longer access it.”

“It is also used for explosives and these criminals pay more to get this fertilizer. So our investigations are on going to expose the activities of these economic saboteurs,’’ he added.

The driver of the trailer and two other persons were arrested and are currently being interrogated.
