Enugu Approves School Feeding For primary 1-3 Pupils

In its effort to education affordable to all and sundry, the government of Enugu State have approved the provision of one free meal per day for pupils in primary one to three.

The state is committed to making education a priority starting from the grassroots and take it to the next level—and also sustain the development projects in the educational sector, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was quoted as saying on Monday while inaugurating the committee for the free meal project.

Governor Ugwuanyi who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo while inaugurating two separate committees: Science, vocational and Technical education and the free meal steering committee at Government House noted that his government had made human capital development its priority.

“It’s a surest way of sustaining the future of the people,” he told the gathering at the Executive Council Chambers.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze who heads the committee said the project would stimulate sustained attention by the pupils as well as encourage school farming since the feeding is home-grown based.
