Buhari Appoints New NCC Chair, Tinubu’s Spokesman Executive Commissioner

Olabiyi DurojaiyePresident Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday nominated Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye as chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Senator Durojaiye’s nomination was announced in a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

According to the statement, President Buhari requested the Senate to confirm nominees into positions of Chairman, Executive Commissioner, and Non-Executive Commissioners of the NCC.

It noted noted that the nominations were in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act 2003.

The statement disclosed that Buhari, in an August 2, 2016 letter sent to Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki, nominated Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye (South West) as chairman.

Mr. Durojaiye, who was in the Senate between 1999 and 2003, is a former Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, a lawyer and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress.

It further stated that Mr. Sunday Dare (South West) got the nod as Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Management.

Mr. Dare is the spokesman of the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Adesina listed those nominated as Non-Executive Commissioners are: Aliyu Sa’idu Abubakar (North East), Clement Omeiza Baiye (North Central), Chief Okoi Ofem Obono Obla (South South), Pastor Ezekiel Yissa (North Central) and Senator Ifeanyi Ararume (South East).
