NEWLY-ACQUIRED-FIVE-68-SEATER-AIR-CONDITIONED-TRAIN-COACHESThe Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Tuesday said that no fewer than 400 bidders were competing to participate in its capital projects for 2016.

“The bidders are bidding for alternative revenue streams like canteens, clubs and car parks, communication centres and others; the disposal of scrap metals and other capital projects”.

Ben Iloanusi, the Deputy Director in charge of the corporation’s procurement disclosed this at the official unveiling of documents’ screening for the bidders at its headquarters in Lagos.

Mr. Iloanusi, who said that the exercise was an official opening of documents submitted by bidders, added that the corporation had not commenced evaluation.

“The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation is officially conducting a tender’s bid opening, an hour after the closing of submission of tender-bid documents”.

Mr. Iloanusi said that NRC invited newsmen and non-governmental organizations to witness the event to ensure transparency and in compliance with the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act.

“We are not evaluating yet or authenticating documents; we are only opening documents and confirming what the bidders have. The reason for this is for transparency”, he said.

NAN reports that in July, the NRC management published in some national dailies and federal tenders’ journal an invitation for technical and financial tender’s bids as required by law.

Mr. Iloanusi said the date for evaluation and authentication of documents would be made public after this exercise.

Mr. Iloanusi said that bidders who failed to include relevant documents in their tender’s bids would not be shortlisted for evaluation.

He said that the exercise had become necessary to enhance fairness, openness, transparency and professionalism. (NAN)

Vendor’s Widow Disowns Family Over N500m Lawsuit Against Gbajabiamila

Femi Gbajabiamila

Josephine Okereke, wife of the Abuja-based vendor killed by a security aide of Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, has rejected the family’s demand of N500 million compensation.

Okereke while speaking to newsmen on Thursday stated that what she wants is justice for her late husband, and not the compensation being sought by his family.

Recall that some days ago, Ifeanyi, her husband, was shot by Abdullahi Hassan, a Department of State Services (DSS) operative attached to the speaker.

Days after the Speaker promised to ensure justice, the family of the slain vendor wrote the speaker, demanding a N500 million compensation.

Okereke, however, told journalists in Abuja that she was not privy to the N500 million compensation requested by the family.

“I was in my house when within 10 minutes my father-in-law came from Abia, he went out along with his other son and the next day I heard that my husband’s people are demanding N500 million as compensation,” she said.

“I was shocked and asked how will they be doing that and how will the speaker help the children again with such demand. All I want now is that the person that killed my husband to face justice.”
