Security Operatives Take Over Benue Assembly

The complex of the Benue State House of Assembly was yesterday taken over by security personnel and youths of All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic, PDP. The invasion of the House of assembly is the latest twist in the N750 million car purchase scam that continues to rock the Assembly.

It would be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had opened a probe on the House of Assembly over the purchase of the car.

The security operatives, including a detachment of the Mobile Police Force and operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, mounted checkpoints at over 800 metres from the complex, preventing anyone from heading towards the Assembly.

They also ensured that the aggrieved youths were prevented from causing chaos both within and outside the complex.

Trouble started when Honourable Kester Kyenge, of the PDP, and the leader of the Consensus for Change group in the House blamed his six months suspension on his call for investigation on how the bailout fund given to the state was spent.

Meanwhile, the House Committee Chairman on Information, Bem Ngutyo, praised the presence of security operatives as he said it was to forestall any criminal act in the Assembly.
