10 Killed As Gunmen Attack Benue Communities Again

Benue State-Governor-Samuel OrtomSuspected Fulani herdsmen have again struck in Logo local government area of Benue State, killing at least 10 persons and leaving several others injured.

The attacks on Logo have become a recurring feature despite a peace meeting held last week between stakeholders of the affected Tiv speaking communities and Fulani herders.

The latest attack occurred yesterday around 7.03am while the farmers were going to their various farms, a resident of the area and former government official, Chief Joseph Anawah said.

Anawah said that those killed in yesterday’s attack hailed from Adayohov and Sontyo villages of Gaabe-Tiev in Logo LGA, and that more people were still missing.

But, the State Coordinator of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Garus Gololo, has denied any fresh altercation between the farmers and herders.

“I have contacted my people there (Logo) and they said there was nothing like that”, Gololo said.

This claim was faulted by the member representing Logo Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Kester Kyenge, who said the casualty figures from yesterday’s attack could be more because some bodies were still being recovered from the bush at the time of this report.

Confirming the development, the spokesman of the Benue Police Command, ASP Moses Yamu, said that four persons were attacked by suspected herders at Tse-Adayol in Mbagbe ward of Logo and that one was killed, another missing while the other two were injured.
