On this day in 1960; Libyan former president Colonel Muammar Ghadaffi admitted to providing funds, munitions, and training to the IRA.
Also on this day in 2007; An explosion shook the Kenyan capital Nairobi, sending shards of glass spewing outside a downtown restaurant, killing at least one person and injuring more than thirty.
Equally on this day in 2004; Zimbabwe’s high court dismissed the first of the opposition’s appeals against President Robert Mugabe’s 2002 re-election.
Also on this day in 2004;A coup attempt in DR Congo by renegade soldiers from the presidential guard was thwarted.
On this day in 1991;The Red Sea port of Assab, Ethiopia, and the country’s capital, Addis Ababa, 400 miles away, were linked with the re-opening of the only road between the two cities.
