PDP Leadership Crisis, Indication Of Strength – Lamido

Sule_LamidoThe immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said the current crisis confronting the Peoples Democratic Party is a sign that the opposition party is strong.

The ex-governor, who stated this while fielding questions from newsmen in his country home in Bamaina village, Birnin-kudu local government area of the state, pointed out that six months ago, nobody talked about the PDP and its leadership but with what is going on now, all eyes are on the party.

Mr. Lamido expressed confidence that the party would emerge stronger and bigger.

According to him, it is normal for people to fight for what is existent, valuable, worthy and important.

“PDP is a big party that has history and it is a party of conglomeration of all Nigerians across the divide”, he said.

“This is not our first crisis, if you go down our history from the formation of the party you will notice that this is not the first time we are having crisis.

“You can remember that the late Sunday Awoniyi had battle of leadership with former Chairman Barnabas Gemade.

“We also had crisis during Audu Ogbeh’s reign.

“You don’t fight for what is not in existence.

“PDP was in power for 16 years and the crisis and fight had always been with us”.

Reacting to the claim by the governing All Progressives Congress that the PDP’s sins were catching up with it, the former Jigawa governor disagreed, saying if that was the case, “the APC was also a combination of sinners because it was formed largely by former ODO members”.

He said the APC won the 2015 general elections with the support of PDP members who defected few months to the polls, stating that most of them were serving governors and ministers.

“If the PDP committed sins in its 16 years in power, then it means that people like Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aliyu Wamakko, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, Umar Ganduje, Atiku Abubakar and a host of many others who claimed to be APC members today are all sinners because they were in the PDP before joining the APC”, said Lamido.

On the leadership tussle between Senators Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff, the former governor said both are members of PDP and would remain so no matter what happened.

He said the party had the capacity to resolve its differences and gave the assurance that the discord within the party would soon be over.

He also predicted that PDP would return to power in 2019 because it is a conglomeration of Nigerians.
