Jigawa Can Pay Workers’ Salaries For The Next Six Months, Says Gov. Badaru

Governor Mohammed Badaru AbubakarAmid dwindling federal allocation and complaints by state governors in the country that they cannot sustain the wage demands of workers, Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has said the state will be able to pay workers’ salaries for the next six months.
Hailing Jigawa as one of the few states not owing civil servants at both state and local government levels salaries, Mr. Abubakar said the feat was achieved by a prudent fiscal management of the state’s resources.
He also said the state did not access the bailout fund provided by the federal government.
According to the governor, his administration was able to save over N5billion and N1billion for the state and local government stabilization accounts respectively.
Badaru made the disclosure yesterday in a radio programme broadcast in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
On the state of the nation’s economy made worse by price of oil in the international market, the governor said there was hope for the future as the price of oil had started appreciating.
He also said if peace was restored to the restive Niger Delta, the revenue accruing to the federation would appreciate and trickle down to all tiers of government.
