EFCC Grills Ex-G0v. Chime Over N450m Campaign Funds

sullivan_chime_govOfficials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday grilled immediate past Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, over the N23.29 billion poll bribery scandal.
The immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke is believed to have provided the sum of $115million (N23.29bn), which was distributed among electoral officers, chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and politicians for the 2015 presidential poll.
Ex-Gov. Chime is being probed by the EFCC over alleged involvement in the disbursement of N450million out of the N23.29billion that was sent to him from Abuja for the polls.
It was learnt that the former governor reported at the zonal office of the Commission in Enugu in response to an invitation to explain his role in the disbursement of the money.
An EFCC source said Mr. Chime in a voluntary statement he made, denied any personal involvement with the disbursement of the said money, contrary to the claim by his former Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mrs. Rita Chinelo Mba.
Mrs. Mba was secretary to the campaign office.
Denying that he personally disbursed the fund, Chime said the money was brought by two of his former commissioners, Joe Nmamnel and Mrs. Mba in company of the State PDP Chairman, Ikeje Asogwa and Prof. Osita Ogbu.
The ex-governor claimed he gave the money to his orderly for safe keep with an instruction that only the secretary to the campaign office should have access to it to facilitate her work.
It was learnt that Mr. Chime was allowed to go home with the understanding that he will report back on Monday for further interrogation.
