A Parents Summit Overriding Stigma With Compassion In The Community: Is This The Family’s Solution?




Parents have been our major concern in the care and management of their children with disabilities, because it is easily, a life changing experience.

As part of Children Development Centre (CDC’s) 20th anniversary celebration;  which has been in the fore front in providing support in all areas relating to child care and services. This has indeed necessitated taking a day out to address the challenges that parents, families and care givers face in managing their children and young adults with disabilities, regardless of type or severity.

The Children’s Developmental Centre is a service-oriented, not-for-profit organization, dedicated in providing a broad range of educational and support services for children, young people and their families within the community.

Established 20 years ago, the Children’s Developmental Centre is located at 31, Modupe Johnson Crescent in Surulere. The place is a facility donated by the Lagos State Government, where we have begun to meet our children’s needs for the future and the present.

Our Vision is focused on the creation of centres in more local government areas and other states within Nigeria. This is based on the huge gaps that have been identified in giving appropriate services to children and young people with developmental disabilities in our communities.

To this end, we are importuning your support, in making this summit a reality for parents and the beginning of other forums to occur later in the year.

The theme for the entire year is to mark 20 years of service is; Compassion, connect: why our communities should care.

However, we are yet to explore if compassion is a family’s solution in overriding stigma.  This summit will deal with a variety of issues; covering from childhood to adulthood.


CDC’s parents the Centre asks, you to be part of the movement….

2. To be or not to be my child’s disability (Issue of stigma)

3. Early detection, interventions and beyond

4. Nutrition and management of diets.

5. For fathers only

6. Managing adults with disabilities; will our children ever get married

7. Where is help when you need it.

8. Family financial management and budgeting

9. Preventing burn out, why can’t we laugh, smile and just have fun

10. Questions and answers.

BREAKING: Police Arrest Suspects As Explosion Rocks Wike Father’s Church

An explosion has reportedly rocked a church belonging to the father of Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The Rivers State Police Command has however announced the arrest of three suspects who allegedly detonated explosives at a Pentecostal church, Christain Universal Church International, located at Mile 3, Diobu area of Port Harcourt.

The act was reportedly carried out on Saturday night and detonated the explosives suspected to be dynamite.

According to reports, a significant part of the church was damaged by the explosion, which created panic in the area.

 Gunmen Abduct Wife Of Akeredolu’s Chief Of Staff

Kidnappers on Friday abducted the wife of Olugbenga Ale, Chief of Staff to Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

According to reports, she was kidnapped around Owena after the Joseph Ayo Babalola University while on her way back to Ondo from Lagos State.

The police spokesman in the state, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the news to Channels Television on Friday.

This development is coming about twenty-four hours after a first-class traditional ruler in Ondo State, the Olufon of Ifon in Ose local government, Oba Isreal Adeusi, was murdered by suspected kidnappers.
