Wabba-led NLC Fails To Shut Lagos Airport As Threatened

The Ayuba Wabba-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had vowed not to relent on its efforts at grounding Nigeria’s economy to ensure the government listen to its demand. The Wabba-led NLC is asking the federal government to reverse its decision on the price of petrol which was increased by more than 60 percent.

The union, however, failed to carry out its plan of grounding flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Thursday.

Vice-president of the NLC, Mr Adelegan Solomon, had, on Wednesday, vowed that no flight would land or take off from the airport if the Federal Government refused to revert the pump price of petrol from N145 to N87 per litre.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who monitored the situation, reported that flight operations went on smoothly at both the international and domestic wings of the airport. However, security was tight within the airport environment as police officers were deployed around strategic locations.
