Chibok Girls: First Missing Chibok Girl Rescued

Several reports indicate that the first of 219 girls kidnapped in the village of Chibok, Borno state have been rescued after she was spotted by a civilian vigilante in Sambisa.

The Chibok Girls remain missing after they were abducted by the deadly fundamentalist group, Boko Haram in 2014. Despite some measure of assistance from the United States government and information that the girls are being held in Sambisa forest, there has been no headway made in rescuing them.

The Buhari administration came to power on the back of promises to flush out Boko Haram and rescue the missing girls.

The rescued girl has been identified as Amina Ali Nkeki and she was reportedly rescued on Tuesday morning and BBC quotes the Chibok Community chief as saying  “She was saying… all the Chibok girls are still there in the Sambisa except six of them that have already died.”

The rescue of Amina will undoubtedly give a boost to the Bring Back Our Girls movement which has campaigned tirelessly since 2014 to keep the rescue of the girls on the forefront of the government’s agenda.
