FCT Council Poll: APC Chieftains Openly Bribed Voters At Polling Units – PDP

PDPThe Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Alhaji Yahaya Yunusa Suleiman, on Monday accused chieftains of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, of financially inducing voters during last weekend’s council polls across six area councils.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared APC winner of the polls in two council areas while the remaining four council areas were declared inconclusive.
In his reaction to the outcome of the polls, Suleiman said it was unfortunate that the APC-led federal government, which claimed to be disciplined and fighting corruption, was busy buying votes.
He lamented that despite the cries of economic downturn in the country, some politicians still moved large sums of money to polling units and shared them openly to voters with the security agencies indifferent to the electoral infringement.
“It is unfortunate that we saw some APC chieftains sharing money at the polling units and the security men were watching without doing anything”, he alleged.
The PDP also accused the FCT INEC of being behind the inconclusive election at Bako pulling unit, Kwali, which was shifted to Sunday, alleging that the inconclusive election in the area was pre-planned by the electoral umpire to rig in favour of a political party.
Suleiman said a situation where every election in the country was declared inconclusive by INEC was worrisome and that it was beginning to erode the confidence of the people in the umpire.
“I think it is high time for us the stakeholders to go back and re-examine ourselves and see if we are really the change agents. I believe if we can change our attitudes, it will help the electoral process in Nigeria”, he added.
