Cultist: 8 Killed As Cultists Clash In Rivers Community

No fewer than eight persons are feared killed between Sunday and Tuesday morning following a clash between two cult groups, Deygbam and Icelanders at Rumuodogo community in Emohua local government area of Rivers State.

According to sources in the community,  six persons were killed by suspected members of Deygbam cult group, in retaliation for the killing of two of their members by some suspected members of the Icelander cult group.

One of the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity told LEADERSHIP that the community had already been deserted as villagers seek refuge in nearby communities due to inadequate security presence.

The source further stated that one Eberechi and another person was murdered in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday, April 3, this year.

He said, “Yesterday morning (Tuesday), they killed six people in Rumuodogo community. It was some Deygbam boys who came to avenge the killing of their members that were murdered by suspected Icelanders.

“Right now there are no security operatives in the community, they are killing innocent people they meet on their way.”

When contacted, the police public Relations Officer, (PPRO) in the state, Ahmad Kidaya Muhammad, confirmed the incident but could not give the exact number of casualties.

Muhammad stated that four persons, Eze Alu 24, Ikechi Bennert 30, Chidi Bennert 40 and Mike Eleru 38, have been arrested in connection to the killings and are already undergoing investigation.

He said, “The incident happened Sunday night in the community and we were able to mobilise timely to bring place to normal. Additional unit mobile policemen have been deployed to Rumuodogo community to maintain peace and serenity.
