The Plateau State Police Command on Monday paraded one Umar Isah for allegedly kidnapping a three-year old boy and demanding a ransom of N250,000 from his parents.

Parading the suspect, the Commissioner of Police, CP, in the State, Adekunle Oladunjoye said the suspect allegedly kidnapped one Ahmed Hanif Abubakar of Naraguta village, in Jos North LGA, on the 22nd February, 2016, who was sent to the gate of their residence by his mother, to buy soya cake, popularly called “awara”.

According to Oladunjoye, Isah, who is not known in the neighbourhood, saw the boy going for the errand, lured him away with the pretence that he was going to buy him something, and took him to Soro village in Gajuwa LGA in Bauchi State, and passed the night with the boy at the residence of an Arabic teacher, one Jibrin Musa.

“The next day, he removed the trouser the little boy was wearing, left the boy in custody of the Arabic teacher and came back to Jos.

He added that the suspect wrote a note that reads, “Nigeria Blood and Blood Group Kaduna Mafia about your child call 08081012692 now now”. He sent the note and the child’s trouser to the parents, through another small boy.

The Police Commissioner further explained that when the suspect was called on the aforementioned mobile number, he demanded for a ransom of N250, 000, which he said must be brought to Zaria, in Kaduna State, but after negotiations with the child’s family, he agreed to collect N150,000.

However, the child’s parents reported the matter to the police and at the appointed time for delivering the ransom, the suspect was apprehended by the police at Tsaya village, along Jos-Jengre road, while picking the ransom.
