The Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State has been blocked by protesting truck drivers, leaving many travelers and other road users stranded since Wednesday night on the road.
It was learnt that the drivers are protesting the death of their colleague, who was allegedly shot to death yesterday by a policeman along the road for refusing to give bribe.
The drivers, it was further learnt, on getting wind of the killing of their colleague, mobilized themselves and blocked the road in protest.
Among those stranded on the road are officials of the federal ministry of communications who are on their way to Ibadan, Oyo State for a retreat.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has advised motorists to avoid using the Lokoja/Okene road and use alternative route saying the route had been blocked “because of some security issues”.
