The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) says all those alleged to have been involved in violent activities in the 2015 general elections would not go unpunished as the commission has already concluded plans to bring them to justice.
NHRC Executive Secretary, Bem Angwe, also said that persons alleged to have made hate speeches that are capable of destroying democracy as well as plunging the country into turmoil will also face the law.
Angwe said this in Abuja while having in audience the Executive Director, Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER), Frank Tietie. He emphasized that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and that the commission would do everything within its power to ensure that the rights of Nigerians are not only recognized but also respected.
“I want to let you know that the commission has secured the financial support of some development partners to begin the investigation of persons who participated in violent acts in the 2015 general elections. I also want to let you know that the commission have set up a special investigation panel to investigate all those persons who are found to have made hate speeches that are capable of throwing this country into turmoil,” Angwe said.
