I’ll Triumph At Benue South Election Rerurn – David Mark

Published

on

David-Mark1The immediate-past Senate President, David Mark, has declared that he would emerge victorious in the February 20 rerun election for the Benue South Senatorial District on the strength of the support of his constituents and God.

He stated this when two groups – Idoma Dreams and Idoma Young Professionals – paid him a solidarity visit on Wednesday.

Mr. Mark, who has been in the Senate since the return to Democracy in 1999, had his election nullified by the Court of Appeal last year, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Election, INEC, to conduct a fresh election in the district.

His victory in the March 28 National Assembly election was challenged by the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, whose chances at the rerun poll have brightened with the recent defection of prominent Idoma politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party to APC.

However, spurred by the visit and uncommon show of brotherhood and solidarity by the groups, Mark said that his victory is sure because of their support.

“I am deeply touched by this uncommon solidarity. Let me also remind you that in going about the campaign for me, please always be law-abiding. I need you to be peaceful during the pre-election, Election Day and post-election.

“Like I mentioned before, no election is worth injury or loss of life. I crave for a peaceful conduct of election at all times. The choice of representation resides with the people and ultimately God.

“I want to thank you for believing in my leadership and understanding that credible representation at the senate is of utmost importance.

“By the grace of God, we shall triumph at the rerun election. I will defend the interest of our people at all times”, he said.

The former Nigeria’s number three man assured his visitors that he was irrevocably committed to the development of Benue South and beyond, and would do everything legitimate to improve their lots.

Earlier, leader of the Idoma Dreams, Donald Ogah, said the campaign for the former Senate president had been impressive “because our people have seen the need to uphold a credible and quality representation and the good works that he represents”.

Mr. Ogah noted that the battle to return Mr. Mark to the senate was not negotiable “because he represents Idoma Dreams. This battle is not for you (Mark) but for the survival of Idoma nation”.

“We would not sit and watch outsiders determine our future and destiny. We have a choice in Senator Mark”, he added.

In his letter, Senator Abbo explained that his decision to defect to the APC is because of the mismanagement of the PDP in Adamawa state by Governor Umaru Fintiri.

Senator Abbo who is a first-term lawmaker was elected in 2019 to the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, the name Senator Elisha Abbo became popular amongst Nigerians last year after he made headlines for slapping an attendant in a sex toy shop for ‘disrespecting’ him.

2023 Presidency: Bode George Cautions Buhari About Tinubu

Bode George, Tinubu

Chief Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against supporting Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 Presidency.

Bode George made this remark in a statement titled, “The jamboree visit to the Villa: My Birthday Offering.”

The former National Port Authority boss warned Buhari against falling to the antics of those who would ignore the issues of Lagos State to engage in a needless scheming in partisan engagement.

Bode-George also condemned the recent visit of some APC chieftains, Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Dr Yomi Finnih, and Chief Segun Osoba to the State House, Abuja.

The PDP chieftain said: “The visit of Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Dr Yomi Finnih, and Chief Segun Osoba to the seat of power in Abuja is needless, unnecessary, veiled in some poorly hidden agenda that is woven in apparently self-serving ulterior personalised desperation.

“It is easy to discern that the visit is stripped of any patriotic progression, lacking in balanced national leadership, voided of a spirit of sacrifice and developmental vision. The very absence of Bola Tinubu from the jamboree screams to high heavens that the meeting itself is a covert placatory softening of the ground for Tinubu himself. I am pretty certain that in his very absence, Tinubu occupies the centrality of the discussion.

“I will advise Baba Akande who governed Osun State with principled, incorruptible leadership to kindly help us drop off Bola Tinubu at Iragbiji as he makes his way back to Ila-Orangun, rather than engaging in fruitless pleading sessions for a man who is fixated on a warped pipe-dream about governing Nigeria. He should pay restitution for the egregious stripping of the Lagosian coffers.”
