Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose says the strength of any true democracy lies in the existence of a viable opposition, hence his decision to remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unless the party ceases to exist.

Governor Fayose said this when he visited his Osun State counterpart Governor Rauf Aregbesola at the government house in Osogbo, the state capital, his first visit to Aregbesola and to any governor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While Aregbesola agreed with Fayose about the need for the presence of a viable opposition, the Osun State governor expressed his desire to see Fayose pursue his political ideology in a progressive party like the APC.

According to Fayose, he was on the visit particularly because of his concern for the unity of the Yoruba race.

“I was moved by the historic visit of Ooni to the Alaafin and I am of the opinion that the Yoruba leaders must unite,” the Ekiti governor wrote on Twitter.

“The Yoruba nation must not be rubbished. Our leaders must not be rubbished irrespective of the political party they belong to.”
