Tragic: Gunmen Murder INEC REC Alongside His Son

Dr Ebirien Fubara, the Returning Officer in the March 28 House of Representatives election for Obio Akpor federal constituency in Rivers state, has been murdered by unknown gunmen.

The tragic event which took place over the weekend, cost the life of Febura and his son.

The Rivers varsity lecturer and his son was murdered at their residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Vanguard reports that the assassins, who stormed his Odili Road residence in Port Harcourt, first killed his son with a rod and then went for the father.

They reportedly clubbed him till he fell unconscious, he was later rushed to the hospital in Port Harcourt.

It was at the hospital that Dr Febura died on Sunday, December 13, and his remains was deposited in a morgue.

Spokesman for the Rivers police command, Ahmad Muhammad, said, the police was not aware of the ugly development.

He however, said that the police will begin an immediate investigation into the sad incident.

Until his demise, the late Fubara was appointed a Commissioner in the Rivers state Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), by Governor Nyesom Wike.

Lately, there have been series of attacks by alleged “unknown gunmen” in Rivers state. Barely two weeks ago, a 78 years old woman, Mrs Mabel Abiante was kidnapped by over 15 well armed gunmen, at her residence at Ngo, headquarters of Andoni local government.

Witnesses claim that the cleric’s wife was kidnapped on Saturday, November 29, at about 8.50pm, while watching television in her sitting room.
