Judgment Reserved In A/Ibom Governorship Appeal Case

Udom-Emmanuel-Umana-UmanaThe Appeal Court, Abuja Division on Tuesday, reserved judgment in five pending appeals on the Akwa Ibom State governorship election.

It would be recalled that the State Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja on October 21 nullified election in 18 out of 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom without unseating the governor.

The tribunal delivered the judgment in a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate, Umana O. Umana, challenging the election of Mr. Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The panel of five justices of the Court of Appeal headed by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji that heard the various appeals, held that the judgments were reserved, adding that all parties to the appeal would be communicated a date for the judgment.

  1. The appeal court’s procrastination on the judgement of april 2015 election between the people’s democratic party (PDP) and All progressive congress (APC) is becoming a perennial issues to the entire people of Akwa Ibom state.
If the Appeal court tribunal cancelled the election of eighteen local government areas out of thirty one local government areas in the Akwa Ibom State after the incumbent governor from People’s Democratic Party has being declared winner in all state’s election. Do such petition against the governor really imperative after months of consensus administration? I feel such petition against the seating government after hundred days in office as the executive governor of Akwa Ibom State is inconsequential to the people.
The election came and gone some months ago and beyond six months. So there is no need crying and complaining over pearl milk from opposition party.
The people of Akwa Ibom State in unilateral assembly agreed political power rotation and dispensation from Uyo, lkot Ekpene to Eket senatorial district.
Uyo and Ikot Ekpene senatorial districts have constitutional provides governors since the advent of fourth democratic era in 1999.
Gov.(Arch) Victor Attah and Gov.(Barr) Godswill Akpabio from Uyo and Ikot Ekpene senatorial districts respectively.
It was constitutional rights though not political for Eket senatorial district to produce a governor of the state.
That was why massive turnout of voting was given to a governor from Eket senatorial district not because of the party platform. The APC’s governorship aspirant from Uyo senatorial district loss election as the result of the gubernatorial zoning in the Akwa Ibom state.
But there is another turn for Uyo Senatorial district. I therefore urge the great people of Akwa Ibom to unite for the democratic transformation, dispensation and industralisation of the state instead of perennial petition of election that hinder progressive administration and good governance. We’re looking forward to make Akwa Ibom state a destination choice for investors to invest and not a place for venomous petitions from politicians.
