Murray-Bruce Laments APC Senator’s Rejection Of N5,000 Monthly Payment For Unemployed Youths

Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district Ben Murray-Bruce has described as sad the decision of Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reject a motion moved by Senator Philip Aduda urging President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his party’s promise of paying N5,000 monthly to unemployed Nigerian youths.

When Aduda raised the motion, Godswill Akpabio, the senate minority leader seconded it but the APC senators shot it down despite being one of the promises that led to the election of Buhari in the past election.

Following Buhari’s election, the government had reiterated its resolve to fulfill the promise. It was therefore surprising that senators of the APC were against the motion.

“It is sad that the Senate rejected the motion to pay unemployed youths ₦5000 monthly despite the support of PDP Senators for the motion,” Murray-Bruce wrote on twitter.

Aduda’s motion followed an earlier motion‎ on the need to curb unemployment in Nigeria by Senator Bassey Akpan who observed that the rate of job creation in Nigeria was grossly inadequate to keep pace with the expanding working age and labour force population. He said if the nation’s unemployed youths‎ were effectively engaged in gainful employment, vices such as terrorism, kidnapping and armed robbery would be reduced.

Has asked the senate to call on the “federal government and sub-national governments to intensify their effort on employment generation activities in line with their various campaign promises”.

The was motion adopted, however, after some amendments were made to it.
