The sentence was handed down on Ilyas by an Upper Area court sitting in Zuba, in the Federal Capital Territory, presided over by the judge, Aminu Sa’ad , who also handed down a mandatory fine of N30,000 to be paid by the accused.

Jekhina Ilyas of Bwari was convicted for enticing a married woman, an offence that contradicts Section 389 of the penal code.

The police prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, who said the offence of enticing a married woman contradicted Section 389 of the penal code, had told the court that one John Okafor, a resident of Dei-dei, a satellite town in the FCT, reported at the Kubwa Police station that the accused, had been enticing his wife, Anna Maria Okafor, with gifts and sending her love messages via social media since May.

The complainant also told the police that Ilyas had also slept with the wife in various places including hotels and inside his vehicle, resulting in her intention to quit her matrimonial home.

When the charge was read to Ilyas, he admitted committing the crime, pleading for leniency but Sa’ad would not hear of that, as he duly sent him to jail.
