Police Arrest Suspect Over Attempted Kidnap Of Undergraduate

The Police authorities in Delta state have apprehended a suspected kidnapper, one Jason Obasogie, who attempted to kidnap a University undergraduate last Sunday in Oghara, near Warri.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement on Friday in Asaba that the suspect was nabbed following a tip off at a hotel in Oghara community.

She said: “On October 18, 20015 at about 8.30 pm, armed hoodlums attempted to kidnap one Miss Rita Myers, a student of Western Delta University Oghara at the premises of Keldor Hotel in Oghara.
“Sequel to that, a police patrol team was dispatched to the scene where they arrested one Jason Obasogie, male of No. 2 Ehare close, Sapele Road, Benin City Edo state.”

Kalu said the victim told the police that she was invited to the Hotel by a friend and on getting there, the suspect who wore a mask attempted to suffocate her with a liquid soaked hand kerchief.

The police image maker said that the victim, struggled to free herself from the suspect’s grip and raised alarm which led to the arrest of the suspect.

She further disclosed that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, adding that the police have launched investigation into the incident.
