Kogi Hails Appeal Court Judgment Reinstating LG Chairmen, Councilors

Idris WadaThe Kogi State Government has applauded the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, which reinstated the chairmen and councilors of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.

In a statement issued in Lokoja, the state capital, Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi described the appellate court’s ruling as an affirmation that the judiciary is truly the last hope of the common man and commended the reinstated chairmen and councilors for remaining law abiding while the court case lasted.

While noting that the decision of Governor Idris Wada to respect the ruling of a Koton Karfe High Court which nullified the election of the Local Government chairmen and councilors was in line with the rule of law, Awoniyi praised the decision of the chairmen and councilors to appeal the judgment, adding that the Appeal Court ruling on Friday vindicates the position of the government.

Deputy Governor Awoniyi conveyed the state government’s congratulations to the chairmen and assured them that the state will continue to ensure a harmonious working relationship with the Local Government Areas in the state.

Recall that the All Progressives Congress in the state had secured a judgment in its favor when a Koton-Karfe High Court last December sacked all the Council chairmen and councilors from office.
