Kano Declares Wednesday Public Holiday To Celebrate Islamic New Year

The Kano State Government has declared October 14 as public holiday to mark the new Islamic year. Wednesday is the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calender and marks the new Islamic year 1437 after Hijra.

This was contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Baba Dantiye, the Director-General, Media and Communications to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje.

Dantiye quoted Gov. Ganduje as congratulating the people of the state and Muslims the world over, for witnessing the new year and appealing to Kano citizens to utilise the holiday to offer prayers for peace and prosperity of the country.

He said the governor had reassured the people of the state government’s determination to work hard towards improving their living standards. He pledged to continue to give priority attention to both formal and non-formal education in the state.
