Drama As Police Arraign Two Friends For Allegedly Stabbing Each Other

There was mild drama on Wednesday at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court as two friends, Yetunde Kolawole, 20 and Banke Alonge, 26, were arraigned for allegedly stabbing each other.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the accused persons engaged in a public fight and unlawfully used broken bottles to cause injuries on themselves.

According to the prosecutor, the offences were committed on Oct.13 at Irona Area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

She also said the offences contravened Sections 83 and 338(1) of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

Ikebuilo prayed the court for an adjournment to enable her prepare her case against the accused persons.

But the accused persons, represented by their counsel, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde and Mr Gbenga Abejide, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge read to them by the court.

Their counsel both prayed the court to grant bail in favour of their clients, promising that reliable sureties would be provided.
Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo, after listening to the argument of both parties, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N50,000 and one surety each.

The case was adjourned till Nov.11 for hearing.
