Breaking News: Tribunal Orders Rerun Of Akwa Ibom Governorship Election

The Akwa Ibom State governorship election tribunal has ordered for a rerun of the governorship election in the state.

The Tribunal ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct re-run election in 18 local government areas of the state out of the 31 LGs in Akwa Ibom.

The Tribunal said in its verdict on Wednesday that it was satisfied that there were discrepancies during the governorship election held on April 11.

INEC had declared Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with 996,071 of the total votes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) was second with 89,865 votes.

Other parties: Accord, 10,598; AA, 587; AD, 689; APA, 768; APGA, 823; DPP, 347; ID, 243; LP, 8,600; NCP,516; PPA, 1,012; PPN, 247 and UPN, 214.

INEC Returning Officer, Prof James Ekpoki said at the time that registered voters were 1,548,531 while accredited voters were 1,158,624.
