100 Days: Buhari Has Inspired Hope In Nigerians – Akanbi

justice_akanbi_s_wife_passed_away_at_68Retired President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mustapha Akanbi (retd.), on Thursday said that after 100 days in office, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has inspired hope in Nigerians.

He said what is now expected from all sensible Nigerians is to “pray for Buhari to succeed”.

The pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) made this known in Ilorin, Kwara State at a press briefing as part of activities to mark his 83rd birthday.

He said: “I did not imagine in my time that people will work for six months and they are not paid salaries. How will they feed their families? It is because people have stolen the money. Many political office holders have stolen money.

“This administration has given more hope for now. I spoke against ICPC in the papers that they have not been working that they should wake up from slumber just as EFCC has woken up. The body language and spoken words of Buhari show that he is going to fight corruption.

“Let us all support Buhari. Nobody will succeed in fighting corruption if government does not show political will and Buhari has demonstrated the political will in what he is doing now”.

Wading into the raging debate on President Buhari’s delay in constituting his cabinet, the eminent jurist said “Buhari has said that we should wait till September 30, if he has not appointed, then you can go on with your criticism of his decision not to appoint ministers. So he has given a deadline. He must have reasons for giving that date.

“When it comes to the issue of appointment, I understand that there are thousands of appointments to be given. Buhari is the president for the good and the bad and for every Nigerian. I am sure that by the grace of God, he will balance his appointments”.

“In the first place, the reason, why everybody should join politics, is to serve the people. The essence of government is to shield the poor masses and ensure justice,” he said.

“My main mission of joining the APC is because I have seen justice, I have seen development and I have seen the desire for the leadership at the highest peak to sacrifice their personal comfort just to make the poor people feel good.
