Nigeria’s men senior national team will face Niger in an international friendly match in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, 8 September.
Talks are ongoing between the Nigeria Football federation (NFF) and the Rivers State Government to entertain the Nigeriens at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka stadium.
“We are holding talks with the Rivers State Government, and the NFF is positive that the Super Eagles and Mena will play at the Amiesiamaka Stadium on September 8.
“The truth is that we still have a few loose ends to tighten, before we can say that the match is sealed. Of course, we have confirmation from the Niger Football Federation that they have accepted to play the Super Eagles.”
The Nigeria U-23 Men’s National Team had in July defeated Congo 2-1 at the proposed venue in an Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier.
The letter from the Federation Nigerienne de Football, addressed to the General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, and dated 6th August, 2015, stated: “We write to confirm our participation on the said match in Port Harcourt on the 8th September and our collaboration with Mr. Jairo Pachon, FIFA Match Agent for the success of the organization.”
Initial proposal to have the three-time African champions take on either Ghana or Togo fell through.
