Wimbledon 2015: Wawrinka, Djokovic, Sharapova Through to Last 16

Reigning French Open champion Stanislaw Wawrinka is yet to drop a point at Wimbledon, as well as world No. 1, Novak Djokovic, who continues his match to a third title at the All England Club.

Last year’s semi-finalist Lucie Safarova and fourth seed Maria Sharapova survived the first week, as America’s No. 47-ranked Coco Vandeweghe continued her rise to the Grand Slam big stage by strolling past 2011 U.S. Open champion Samatha Stossur.

Nick Kyrgios stole the ‘big-serving’ show against Canada’s Milos Raonic to set up Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the last 16.

Top seed Djokovic was a mismatch for No. 27 seed Australian Bernard Tomic after a 6-3 6-3 6-3 win on Friday.

The Serb, who has yet to lose to an Aussie in a Tour match since 2006, faced not a single break point while taking a 2-sets-to-1 lead in just 54 minutes. He had already blasted down 38 winners at the point it became obvious that his head-to-head record invisibility against Tomic has been stretched to 4-0.

Djokovic will next face Kevin Anderson in the fourth round. The big-serving South African, seeded 14th this year, posted a 6-4 7-6 (6) 6-3 win over No, 24 seed Leaonardo Mayer.

Djokovic is ahead of Anderson 4-1 in their head-to-head record, Anderson, whose previous meeting with the Belgrade native (2011) ended in straight sets defeat, produced 22 aces and 51 winners in his round-of-32 win over Mayer on Friday.

Wawrinka downed Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-4 6-3 6-4 to set up a fourth round meeting with No. 16 seed David Goffin.

“Playing better and better serving really well since the beginning of the tournament being really aggressive…I think since few years now, I feel really, really good on the grass. I still think I can play my best game,” Wawrinka, who is aiming to become just the faith person to win back-to-back championships in Roland Garros and Wimbledon, said.

Fellow one-hander, Gasquet, saw off Bulgarian Gergor Dimitrov 6-3 6-4 6-4 to set up a rematch with Kyrgios.

Sharapova dispatched Camela Begu 6-3 6-3 to reach the round of 16, while French Open losing finalist Safarova outlasted American Sloane Stephens 3-6 6-3 6-1.

Teenager Belinda Bencic reaches the second week at Wimbledon for the first time, following her 7-5 7-5 win over Mattek Sands.
