Wike Orders Payment Of 3 Months’ Salary Arrears To Pensioners

Nyesom-Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike,  has directed the accountant general of the state to pay pensioners their three months’ arrears of salaries owed them by the past administration.

Wike, while giving the directive on Thursday, said it was callous and insensitive to owe pensioners who had served the state creditably.

According to a statement by Wike’s Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Sir Opunabo Inko-Taria, pensioners in the state were owed for months by Amaechi.

“Not even the strike they embarked on to get Amaechi to pay them worked. Some of them even died in penury out of frustration,” he said.

About half of Nigerians states owe workers salaries of between three to eight months. Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola paid one month salary to workers but paid half of a month to pensioners, some getting as low as N14,000 after about eight months without pension.
