West Brom Sign Hull City’s Chester for £8m

West Brom have signed Wales international James Chester from Hull City on a four-year contract.

The 26-year-old, who played in 156 league games for relegated Hull, has joined the Baggies for a fee of £8m.

Chester spent four years at Manchester United, where he was named captain of the reserve team and made a first-team appearance in a League Cup semi-final, coming on for Garry Neville.

“James did very well for Hull City. I’ve had a good chat with him and he’s the type of player I like,” Baggies boss Tony Pulis said of Chester, who has won 6 caps for Wales.

While on the books of United, Chester had loan spells at Peterborough, Plymouth Argyle and Carlisle before joining the Tigers for £300,000 in 2011.

He scored in the 2014 FA Cup final as Hull were defeated 3-2 by Arsenal.
