Kwara PDP Recants, Washes Hands Off Toyin Saraki’s Ordeal

PDP1The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State on Monday denied a statement credited to it that it was behind the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s invitation to Mrs. Toyin Saraki, wife of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Mrs. Saraki is scheduled to appear before the EFCC today to answer questions on several contracts executed by companies said to be linked to her and her husband when Saraki was the governor of Kwara State from 2003-2011.

The state PDP, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mr. Iyiola Oyedepo, and Publicity Secretary, Chief Rex Olawoye, said the state branch of the party did not write any petition to the EFCC against Saraki’s wife.

It stated that reports linking the party to Mrs. Saraki’s ordeal was politically motivated, adding that it emanated from those who had issues with the senate president and his immediate family.

It said, “The attention of our party, the PDP, Kwara State chapter, has been drawn to a publication carried yesterday by online publications and newspapers (The Punch not inclusive) titled, “PDP claims responsibility for Toyin Saraki’s EFCC ordeal,” and credited to our spokesman, Chief Rex Olawoye.

“First, the Kwara State PDP dissociates itself from the said publications. The publication is the handiwork of dubious, desperate, faceless and spineless individuals or groups who are always in the mass and social media to malign characters and damage their superiors in order to gain cheap popularity.

“We want to put it on record that the Kwara State PDP has never at any time written any petition on anybody in the state, as far as the party is concerned. The Kwara State PDP has no hand in the imbroglio that is going on between the EFCC and Mrs. Toyin Saraki. We therefore emphatically state that all the statements credited to the Kwara State PDP are products/mechanisations of people who are disgruntled. They are spineless cowards”.
