Man City Debutant, Fabian Delph Stretchered Off As Real Madrid Triumphs

Manchester City’s new signing, Fabian Delph was stretchered off in the 18th minute of his debut, after suffering a suspected hamstring injury in his side’s 1-4 defeat by Real Madrid on Friday.

The victory was all Rafael Benitez needed to win his first silverware as Real Madrid manager at the International Champions Cup pre-season tournament in Melbourne, Australia.

Arsenal target Karim Benzema, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and compatriot Pepe gave the Los Blancos a 0-3 lead, before Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure tucked in from the penalty spot to leave scores at 1-3 at the break.

Denis Cheyshev tapped home from close range to complete scoring for the La Liga side on 73 minutes.

“Unfortunately, Delph has a problem with his hamstring. We will see tomorrow how bad it is- the plan was for him to play 45 (minutes).”

Man City signed Delph from Aston Villa on a five-year contract less than a week after saying he was staying put at Villa Park.

The 25-year-old had rarely made an impact in the game before going down clutching his hamstring after a challenge with Luka Modric. He was replaced by Jesus Navas.

City kick-off their Premier League campaign against West Bromwich Albion on Monday, 10 August.

Teenager Patrick Roberts also earned his debut in the game, coming on for Navas. The 18-year-old joined City from Fulham last week.
