C/River NLC Apologises To Workers Over July Salary Deductions

NLCThe Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has apologised to workers in Cross Rivers State for deductions made from their salaries without prior information.

The State Chairman of NLC, Comrade John Ushie, blamed leaders of affiliate unions in the state for not passing the information to their members as agreed during the exco meeting of the union last month.
There was a mild protest on Tuesday in Calabar, the state capital by workers, who expressed anger over deductions in their July salaries.

Ushie, who addressed the workers when they trooped to the State NLC secretariat, pleaded for their understanding over the deductions.

According to him, the decision to deduct from workers’ salaries was taken last year by the executive committee of NLC and that the fund was for construction of a Labour house.

“Workers are right because members of the state working committee who are chairmen of affiliate unions were supposed to have gone back to their respective unions to inform them of the decision. But that was not done, so what has happened is a question of lack of communication. I therefore apologise”, he said.
