U-Turn: Advocaat Signs New Sunderland Deal

Dick Advocaat has made a sensational turnaround on his decision to quit Sunderland at the end of the 2014-15 season.

The Dutch boss, who replaced Guatavo Poyet at the Stadium of Light in March, had told the Premier League club’s management he would be retiring from football despite their desire for him to stay.

But the 68-year-old has had a change of mind and will pen a new one-year deal at the club he led to top flight survival last season.

Advocaat, who took over a Sunderland side one point above relegation zone, ensured safety with a match to spare following their draw at Arsenal.

The former AZ Alkmaar, PSV and Borussia Monchengladbach coach had promised his wife he would resign after the Sunderland job.

Advocaat, who has won titles in his home country Netherlands, Russia and Scotland, has twice coached the Dutch national team and also managed United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Belgium, Russia and Serbia.
