RTEAN Urge Buhari To Reintroduce Toll Gates

toll-gateThe National President of Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Musa Isiwele Shehu, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reintroduce toll-gates along the nation’s highways to be managed by a special board with men of proven integrity.

The administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2004 abolished tolls gates on all federal highways in the country and instead introduced a fuel tax.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Shehu said the only area his association benefitted from the immediate past administration was in the construction of access roads across the country.

“We did not benefit anything from the past government apart from the roads they fixed. I never benefited one naira from Jonathan, no vehicle, no money. At my age, I won’t be afraid of saying the truth”, he said.

He argued that the revenue generated through the toll-gates should be used for road maintenance.

The RTEAN president also urged Buhari to fulfil his campaign promises, especially in his anti-corruption fight and completion of on-going projects.

He promised to support the new administration and called for the establishment of a transport bank where loans can be accessed by members with very low interest rates.
