Onazi To Miss Eagles Qualifiers Away To Tanzania & At Home To Egypt

Ogenyi Onazi has been handed a two-match ban by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) for his “violent conduct” in the home win over Chad last weekend.

Nigeria finished the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier with ten men, holding on to a 2-0 win despite losing the midfielder to a straight red card at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

The Lazio midfielder pushed a Chadian player after the Super Eagles had been awarded a spot kick by Nigerien referee Ibrahim Mamane for a foul on striker Odion Ighalo.

Onazi is “automatically suspended for his next 2 official matches: 39- Tanzania vs Nigeria and 66: Nigeria vs Egypt,” a Caf circular read inter alia. He has since apologised for his actions.

Nigeria are away to Tanzania on 5 September, before hosting Egypt on 25 March. 2016, in the continuation of their Afcon qualifier.
