Gov. Ayade Scraps Weekly Executive Council Meetings In C/River

ben ayadeGovernor of Cross River State, Senator Ben Ayade, has scrapped the weekly Executive Council meetings where the governor and his deputy meets with commissioners, special advisers and permanent secretaries to review the activities of government in the state.

The governor, who made the decision to scrap the State EXCO meeting during a closed door parley with permanent secretaries in the state public and civil service Tuesday, directed that a monthly interactive session in the executive council chambers will take the place of the weekly meeting.

Mr. Ayade in the meeting with the permanent secretaries, also disbanded the anti-deforestation taskforce put in place by his predecessor, Senator Liyel Imoke, to checkmate the illegal logging of large forest reserves in the state for which the United Nations has granted 600 million dollars for the carbon credit accruing from the reserves.

The governor, who did not proffer an alternative solution to the illegal felling of trees in the state simply said, “Government has approved the disbandment of the state Task Force on Illegal Logging in the state while all offenders are to be fully prosecuted without delay”.
