Former Planning Commission Chair Dismisses Buhari’s Empty Treasury Claim, Says Jonathan Left Close To N6trn

The immediate past Minister/Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman has faulted claims by President Muhammadu Buhari that his administration met an empty treasury.

According to Suleiman, the former administration as at May 29 left behind $30 billion (N5.9 trillion), which would have even been higher had the governors not insisted on sharing the fund.

He therefore warned that the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, must not be smeared as a looter of the nation’s treasury before Nigerians.

President Muhammadu Buhari had while speaking to the State House Press Corps said his government met “virtually an empty treasury”, adding that it was a shame that it was a disgrace that Nigeria cannot pay salaries of its workforce.

Suleiman expressed dismay over President Buhari’s statement, describing it as “unscientific and unfair,” as Jonathan “left behind close to  $30 billion.”

“Government can’t tell us that there is no Excess Crude Account (ECA), Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) or are we saying the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and related agencies had not in the last one month been generating revenue?

“Until they are able to prove they had no receipts from these government agencies in the last one month before Nigerians can now buy into Mr. President’s claims of an empty treasury.”

PMB and his APC are not only inconsistent but also incoherent, they hardly get their facts right before talking. Just yesterday he announced to the whole the withdrawal the military on internal security matters and barely 24 hrs later he had a change of mind and so on & on. Was he not the one singing GEJ’s praise? How does he want Nigerians to be seeing him as now that casting aspersion on the one he showered praise upon yesterday is the in thing? A flaky sitting President?

Who got the transfer note Buhari or Sulaimon. Everyone with a good brain knows that the PDP, people are known for lying and half thruth. When the president is saying there is no money in the government cover, he must be looking at the transition note. That not withstanding, there was $46.00 billion, in the government cover when Jonathan, took over and at that time a barrel of oil was more than $100.00. If nothing is left for the incoming government, it should be at least $60.00 billion. If Mr Sulaimon, is proud of $30.00 billion, he must be a proverbial prodigal son.
