Djokovic Sees Off Murray Through to French Open Final

Novak Djokovic will play in his third French Open final after outlasting Andy Murray in a five-setter semi-final.

The top seed went the whole distance with the British No. 1, hitting 56 winners and converting six of 19 break point opportunities to seal a 6-3 6-3 5-7 5-7 6-1 win in almost four hours.

Djokovic and Murray battled for over three hours on Friday before fading lights and storm made the organisers to shift the remainder for Saturday, with the Serb two set to one ahead, and tied 3-3 in the fourth.

Djokovic got off to a better start on resumption of play but Djokovic, just like the day before, got his mojo back to force a decider, which the world No. 1 claimed with an ace after taking all seven points on his net approach.

Djokovic will face Stan Wawrinka in the final on Sunday. The Swiss eighth seed, who accounted for Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, will be looking to close the gap on their head-to-head record which currently stands at 17-3.

Djokovic enters the final with a better momentum after extending his winning streak to 28 matches. Playing in his 16th Grand Slam final will also present an opportunity for him to become just the eighth man to win a career Grand Slam, joining Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on that list.

Saturday saw him snap Murray’s 15-match winning run on clay which had saw the Scot claim titles in ATP 1000 events in Barcelona and Madrid.
