The military continued its onslaught on Islamist militant group Boko Haram as they rescued another set of women and children from the dreaded Sambisa Forest.

According to a statement by the Defence headquarters, the victims were rescued through the Kawuri and Konduga end of the forest on Thursday. They had since been taken to the screening centre where their medical status would be ascertained.

“This set is in addition to the previous individuals earlier rescued during the ongoing operation in the area” the statement read.

“The assault on the forest is continuing from various fronts and efforts are concentrated on rescuing hostages of civilians and destroying all terrorists camps and facilities in the forest.”

Troops had earlier in the week rescued 200 girls and 93 women from the forest where the abducted Chibok girls were believed to have been kept after they were taken from their school on April 14 last year. The military has not said any of the rescued victims was one of the over 200 girls abducted more than a year ago.
