After months of enduring non-payment of salaries, workers in Osun State are going on an indefinite strike.
Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Adekomi Jacob made this known today at a press briefing in Osogbo, the state capital.
He disclosed that workers in the state have not been paid for six months, hence the decision to down tools starting tomorrow.
“The strike will commence from May 26 until when the demands of the unions and workers are met,” he said.
“All workers in the state are advised to stay at home until further directive by the Labour,” Jacob added.
He noted that the government’s attitude to the issue have been disheartening as no seriousness has been shown to end the untold hardship being faced by workers.
“Despite the 14 days ultimatum given by the union to allow the state government to take drastic action to the effect, no payment was effected,” he said.
Retired workers have also been owed for months in the state. The state governor Rauf Aregbesola has often blamed his inability to pay workers’ salaries on the federal government.
